Robert Eugene Grasmick

Bob was born July 8, 1932 in Rocky Ford, CO to Gottlieb L. (Scotty) and Lydia (Markus) Grasmick. He died April 6, 2014 in Rocky Ford. He lived he entire life in Rocky Ford. Bob attended school in Rocky Ford graduating from High School in 1951 and married his high school sweetheart, Carol Eckerdt on June 10, 1951, just 10 days after graduation. They have celebrated 62 years of marriage. Two sons were born to this union, Rick and Kurt. Bob farmed for four years in the Vroman area and in 1955 went to work for Valley Concrete Co, (later named Valco) where he worked until 1989 when he retired.
 
He is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Kurt and grandchildren, Brandon (Brittany) Grasmick and Brooke (Marlon) Douglas; sisters, L. Catherine McJunkins, Ruth Freidenberger; brother, Roy (Margaret) Grasmick; sister-in-law, Claris Jean (Len) Chesler and Rita Eckerdt; nieces and nephews, Steve Freidenberger, Gregg Freidenberger, Doug McJunkins, Gary Eckerdt, Royce Eckerdt, Kimberly (Casey) Minier, Linda (Jack) Jackson, Tiffany Chesler and Ashley Chesler and many cousins. He is also survived by several members of the Rocky Ford High School "Class of 51".
 
Honorary pall bearers are Brandon Grasmick, Brooke Douglas, Steve Freidenberger, Gregg Freidenberger, Doug McJunkins and Zack Freidenberger.
 
He was preceded in death by his son, Rick, parents, Scotty & Lydia Grasmick, parents-in-law, Manuel & Lydia Eckerdt, brother-in-law, Vernon Eckerdt, nephew, Monte Eckerdt, and niece, Cari Shepherd.
 
He loved the Lord and was a member of Valley Community Church.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Arkansas Valley Hospice, P.O. Box 408, La Junta, CO, 81050 direct or through the funeral home.



A celebration of the life service for Robert E. "Bob" Grasmick will be held at Valley Community Church on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Kurt England officiating. Inurnment will be at the Rocky Ford Cemetery.
