Robert M. Jones

April 2, 1950 — November 14, 2017

Mac Jones lost his battle with ALS on November 14, 2017. He died at home surrounded by his loving family. Mac was born April 2, 1950 in La Junta to Robert H. (Bob) Jones and Mary Lou Jones.
On November 23, 1978 Mac married Melanie Clark in La Junta. They would have celebrated their 39th anniversary on Thanksgiving Day. Mac and Melanie loved and raised two sons together, Bry and Brad.
He was the third generation to serve as President of Colorado Bank & Trust in La Junta, following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father. Mac believed strongly in independent community banking and was devoted to his customers. In 2006 he and his team opened a bank in Pueblo. Mac loved La Junta and felt fortunate to then become a part of another great rural community in Pueblo. He cared deeply for his employees and appreciated their hard work.
Mac was a loyal and generous supporter of the La Junta and Pueblo communities. He was member and active supporter of the Koshare Indians and served on the board of directors. Mac was a La Junta reserve policeman for 30 years and was also a volunteer fireman. He was an active participant and supporter of first responders. He also served on the Inspiration Field Board and was recognized by the Colorado Council for Exceptional Children in Special Education for his support.
Mac loved vacationing in Florida, the ocean and fishing with friends. He loved a good cigar and a pinch of RedMan, but above all, he loved his family.
Since being diagnosed with ALS in June 2016, Mac remained active and had a positive outlook about the limited time he had left. He was always willing to talk about the disease and the impact it had on him and his family. With the technology of his wheelchair and computer he remained independent. Mac was eager to share with the community the technology that is available to aid people with disabilities. He also tried to educate people about the services available through Arkansas Valley Hospice, who provided him with excellent care during the past year.
He is survived by his wife, Melanie; sons Bry (Katie) Jones, and Brad (Corrie) Jones of La Junta; and “son” Jason (Molly) Halligan of Windsor. Grandchildren Ryan, Cassidy, Cooper, Wyatt and Charly Jones of La Junta and Oliver and Josephine Halligan of Windsor. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be held in La Junta on Friday, November 24 at 3 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 1111 W. 10th St., La Junta. A celebration of life will follow at Felisa’s Mexican Restaurant, 27948 Frontage Road, La Junta.
A celebration of life will be held in Pueblo on Monday, November 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Milberger Farms at Pepe’s, 28570 US 50 Bus, Pueblo.
