Robert W. Spaid

Bob Spaid, 80, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 at his residence in La Junta surrounded by family and loved ones. Bob was born October 7, 1932 to Ward and Hildreth (Eddy) Spaid in Simla, Colorado. Bob went to live with his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Walter Eddy at the age of 18 months.

Bob attended school in Simla and graduated with the class of 1950 and then attended one year at Otero Junior College. He worked at Furr Foods in Pueblo in the meat department from 1952 to 1957. He then moved to Rocky Ford in 1957 and was part owner of the Valley Supers grocery store and manager of the meat market working there until it closed in October of 1980. In 1982 he started the B & M Chimney Sweep business and did that for 21 years, along with working for Marvin Muth on the Otero Ditch. Bob retired in 2003.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Mary Evelyn Spaid; three children, Michele “Shelly” (Curtis) Grantham-Bensch of Goodwell, OK, her children Bryce, Aundrea, Seth, & Micah of Bakersfield, CA, and Matthew of Fort Bragg, NC; Mark (Patty) Spaid of Naples, NY and their children, Jake, Megan, Luke and Ben; Mary Beth Lewis of La Junta and her children Bryden and Tyler; eight great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by first wife, Lorraine Christine Spaid, daughter Wendy Rose, and infant daughter Gerelyn.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial service will be Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Mark Spaid of the Bristol Springs Free Church in Naples, New York officiating. Bob will be laid to rest in the Simla Cemetery at a later date.
