Ronald R. Gruber

Ronald R. Gruber, 76, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, at Silver Heights Nursing Home in Castle Rock. He was born on August 13, 1948, in La Junta, Colorado, to Betty and Raymond Gruber.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Marilee; his daughters, Kimberlee Romine (Dave) and Allison Nygren (Allan); and his cherished grandchildren, Madison, Ashlee, Dylan, Riley, Brynlee, and Kinsey. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Donlin (Al), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever miss his warmth and kindness.

A proud veteran, Ron enlisted in the Air Force after graduating from La Junta High School. He served his country with dedication, including a tour in Vietnam in 1969. Stationed at Ent Air Force Base and later Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Ron completed 20 years of honorable service before retiring.

He then found his calling in education, earning a Master’s degree in Teaching from CU Boulder. Ron taught in District 20 for two decades and later shared his passion for learning at the Limon prison, where he forged meaningful connections with the inmates.

Ron lived life with a contagious zest, whether tending to his animals, tinkering with cars and motorcycles, or simply enjoying the company of loved ones. He built two homes by hand and instilled in his family the values of hard work, faith, and laughter.

Diagnosed with dementia 11 years ago, Ron faced each challenge with grace, buoyed by the unwavering love of his family and friends. His family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Silver Heights Nursing Home staff for the extraordinary care and genuine affection they showed him in his final year.

A memorial service will be held on January 31st at 3:30 pm at Woodmen Valley Chapel (https://woodmenvalley.org). He will be remembered for his enduring faith, generosity of spirit, and the smile he shared with everyone he met.
