Rowena Joy Hashberger

January 26, 1941 — September 12, 2019

Rowena Joy Hashberger, 78, of Rocky Ford, Colorado, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Crowley County Nursing Home. Born on January 26, 1941, in Logansport, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Thomas E. Drye and the late H. Leona Drye. She was married to David E. Hashberger, of Rocky Ford, CO, for 57 years.

She graduated from high school in 1959 in Toccoa Falls, GA, and went to work as a bookkeeper. She was a beloved wife, devoted mother and doting grandmother. She is remembered as being playful with her grandkids, supportive of their endeavors, and strong in her battle against Alzheimer's. She was warm and gracious to everyone she met, and her friendship was cherished. She leaves all who knew her with memories of unconditional love. She had a heart for children, loving all of them as her own. She loved music and enjoyed playing the piano for 50 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Kari (Rick) Kienitz of Rocky Ford, CO and Kristi (Carlos) Whaley of Forest, VA; nine grandchildren, Joel (Jennifer) Kienitz of Monument, CO; Jacob (Becca) Kienitz of Castle Rock, CO; Joshua (Leah) Kienitz of Pueblo, CO; Jessika Kienitz of Colorado Springs, CO, Jenna and Jayson Kienitz of Rocky Ford, CO; Drew Whaley of Blacksburg, VA; Joseph and Claire Whaley of Forest, VA; five great-grandchildren; her brothers, Charles Drye of Anderson, IN and Fred Drye of Wabash, IN and sister, Eloise Heiland of Kokomo, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; her youngest daughter, Kiara Hashberger of Plymouth, IN; her brother, Tom Drye of Royal Center, IN and sister, Jane Bresson of Menomonee Falls, WI.

The family will celebrate her life with relatives and friends Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Baptist Church in Crowley, CO. An additional service and burial will take place in Plymouth, Indiana, at a date and time to be determined.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Crowley County Nursing Center and Arkansas Valley Hospice for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Youth With A Mission, P.O. Box 22185, Louisville, KY 40252 in memory of Joy Hashberger direct or through the funeral home.
