Ruth E. King

November 26, 1920 — August 12, 2013

Ruth Erma King, 92, of La Junta passed away on August 12, 2013 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center. She was born on November 26, 1920 in Hopedale, Illinois to Henry & Lora (Diegel) Kaufmann. She married Lloyd E. King on Dec. 23, 1946; he preceded her in death on August 10, 2001.

Ruth graduated from Hopedale High School in 1938. She lived in Roanoke, IL from 1946 to 1952; has lived in La Junta since. Ruth worked from 1963 to 1985, first as a nurses aide and later in the central supply office at the La Junta Mennonite Hospital (now AVRMC). Following retirement she worked part-time at Crossroads. Ruth & Lloyd loved traveling, visiting many National Parks throughout the U.S. She enjoyed sewing, quilting with her friends, reading, and embroidering during her quiet time. Ruth was a longtime member of the Emmanuel Mennonite Church

Ruth is survived by her sons, Dale (Kathy) King of Lafayette, CO and James King of Lafayette; grandsons, Chris & Brandon King, and a great-grandson, Hayden King. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry & Lora Kaufmann, husband, Lloyd E. King, brothers, Howard, Glenn, & Harold Kaufmann.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral service will be Monday, August 19, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Mennonite Church with Reverend Jeremy Yoder officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, August 18, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
