Margaret Ruth Muth Grenard, 80, better known as Ruth Muth Grenard, passed away suddenly on Oct. 10, 2018 at Evergreen Assisted Living, where she resided in La Junta, CO.
Ruth was born to Friedrich and Martha (Spate) Muth on July 4, 1938 in Rocky Ford, CO. She attended school in Rocky Ford and graduated high school as co-valedictorian with the class of 1956. She always looked forward to and enjoyed the various class reunion trips over the years. After graduation, Ruth’s first job was working in the office at Rocky Ford High School. Starting in 1958, she was employed at the law offices of Attorneys John Stewart and Lawrence Thulemeyer. In the late 1960’s, Ruth began work with the 16th Judicial District as a court reporter for Judge Lawrence Thulemeyer. She also was the court reporter under Judge Fred Sisk and Judge Jon Kolomitz. She retired in 2001, after approximately 33 years with the District Court.
Ruth’s hobbies included buying, fixing up, and re-selling real estate, going to auctions, and restoring antiques. She also had an interest in old coins, had an extensive coin collection, and was a member of the Arkansas Valley Coin Club for years. Ruth was an active member of the American Society of Germans from Russia, spurred from the fact that her family came to the United States from the Volga River region of Russia in the years 1907 and 1913. She spent many years researching her immediate and extended family’s genealogy and history.
On August 3, 1958, Ruth married Max Grenard, and to that union were born four children. That marriage ended in divorce in 1986.
