Sharon K. Mcclain

March 24, 1954 — June 2, 2015

Sharon K. McClain was born to Winfield Bruce and Virginia Bell Reynolds on March 24, 1954 in La Junta, Colorado.

She attended school in La Junta, graduating in 1972 and continued her education a short time at Otero Jr. College.

During her High School years she was very involved in music, winning several competitions at the state level singing. She studied voice under Mr. Truman Keahey at OJC and later in life, went on to share her love and talent for singing with several voice students.

As a young High School student, she worked at several places. She earned her Nurse Aid certificate and worked as a Ward Clerk at La Junta Medical Center. In 1972 she became employed at Mountain Bell as a telephone operator.

She met and married Joe G. McClain in 1973 in La Junta. They made their home in La Junta for a year, at which time they moved to Swink.

Out of this marriage came two children. Mendi Jo Adelle and Travis Jared Winfield.

She was so proud of her granddaughters, Kylie, Baylie, and Logan. She loved doing their hair, buying them clothes, and enjoying frequent sleep-overs.

She later worked as a bank teller at AVIB, secretary for Dr. Donald Swanz, earned a state license to practice debt collections and in 1986 she went to work for JB accounting which later became Johnny K. Steele Management Co. There she stayed employed until its closing 28 years later.

Among her other joys in life was home decorating, helping out at church, and singing. She considered her voice as a God-given wonder. In 1986, after cancer radiation treatment which involved the throat, she lost her singing voice for about five years. But, she never gave up! Always singing in her head, her voice finally came back stronger than ever.

In 2006 she became the church secretary where she loved her work.

Sharon was a life-long member of the 10thand Cimarron Church of Christ, taking her Lord on in baptism at the age of twelve.

She is survived by her husband Joe; daughter, Mendi (Matt) Krueger and their children, Kylie and Baylie; son, Travis (Katie) McClain, their daughter Logan and expectant twins in July of Denver; mother, Virginia Reynolds of La Junta; and sisters, Brenda (Gary) Coy of Estes Park, CO and Cindy (Jimmy) Day of La Junta. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
