Aztec, NM-Sharon Sue (Harris) Stinemetze, 82, passed from this life and went home to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on August 18, 2022. Sharon had been living in La Junta, Colorado with her daughter Gara and granddaughter Audriana, following complications of two consecutive surgeries the first week of February. Her loving husband Gary was also present in La Junta forming a team to lovingly care for Sharon during these past months. Unfortunately, Sharon’s health declined, and she was placed in the care of Ark Valley Hospice just three days prior to her death. The family feels so blessed to have had this support during this time.
Sharon was born on July 7, 1940, to Mable Lucille and Sam Houston Harris in Hays, Kansas. Her parents were overjoyed to welcome their daughter. Unfortunately, just three years later, Sharon’s mother passed away due to illness. Sharon’s father enlisted the help of his sister, Anna and her husband, Tom Holland to raise Sharon in their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Sharon married the love of her life on October 22, 1960. The couple enjoyed nearly 63 years and have forged a life that was strengthened by their faith. Sharon and Gary share five children and many grandchildren who are their pride and joy. Although the family lived in various states as work would require, they finally settled into San Juan County in 1985 where they have lived for 30 years.
Sharon was known for her love for the Bible and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She and Gary have been long time members of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church for more than 25 years. Sharon was also affectionately known by many as “the dog lady” as she had a successful dog kennel at her home for many years.
Sharon is survived by her adoring husband, Richard Gary Stinemetze; their five children, Noma Gail Volm, Ronald Gary Stinemetze, Gara Lea Stinemetze-Jordan, Bryan Houston Stinemetze and Ginger Baker-Stinemetze Scherer; sixteen grandchildren, eleven great- grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, the aunt and uncle that raised her as well as many other aunts, uncles and cousins; her mother and father-in-law, Audrey and Jeanne Stinemetze; a stillborn child and her beloved newborn son, Tommy; two grandchildren, Jennifer Volm and Jayson Scherer and one great-grandchild.
