Shirley G. Gronemeyer

August 21, 1952 — November 17, 2014

Shirley G. Gronemeyer, 62, passed away on Monday morning November 17th. She was born on August 21st 1952, in Lamar Colorado to Earl and Isabel Martin. She lived in Granada Colorado with her parents and 3 brothers and sisters until she reached the 5th grade when they then moved to the San Luis Valley where she lived until they once again moved to Rifle Colorado and finally settled in Swink Colorado where she graduated high school in 1970. On October 23rd, 1980. Shirley was married to Fred A. Gronemeyer. She joined him in 1981 in Saudi Arabia and they then moved to Swink in 1982 and settled there. They were married for 34 years and welcomed 2 children Matthew Gronemeyer and Eric Gronemeyer. She was preceded in death by her mother Isabel Martin on March 6th, 2000.

Shirley was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, beloved wife, and a friend to many people. Her home was always a warm and welcoming place. She loved to knit, crochet, and play pitch, and reveled in teaching her grandkids to knit and crochet. She was a great cook and loved helping others and always made time for her family and friends. Shirley devoted a lot of her time to Mission Lutheran Church in Swink Colorado and loved to read scripture. Shirley’s faith was very important to her and she was always working on projects for the church or making scarves and other clothing items for her grandkids.

In addition to her husband Fred, she is survived by her father Earl Martin of Swink, two sons, Matthew Gronemeyer of Cheraw and Eric Gronemeyer of Swink, brother Louis(Francie) Martin of Swink, brother Bob(Cheryl) Martin of Rocky Ford, sister Patricia Martin of Rocky Ford, and her 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to be made to Mission Lutheran Church of Swink Colorado.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.


Memorial services will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Peacock Memorial Chapel with Pastor Larry Resel of the Mission Lutheran Church.
