Susy Parker, 79 of Swink passed away on June 15, 2019 at Bent County Nursing Center. She was born July 8, 1939 in Gunnison, Colorado to Clarence and Laverne Howard.
She was the younger sister of Crandall and Larry Howard and grew up on a ranch in the Powderhorn Valley. She attended Gunnison High School and Otero Junior College. In April of 1960, Susy married Kenneth S. Parker in LaJunta, and they chose to call Swink their home for the last 59 years. Susy worked for Swink Schools for 30 years as a teacher’s aide. She loved children and treated them as her own. It was the friendships of staff and relationships with students that brought her to work each day until she retired in 2005. She was active with the United Methodist Church Women’s Group in La Junta and Swink and the Swink Lions Club.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth S. Parker of Swink; children, Marcia (Ron) Dornhecker of Canon City; Mark (Dana) Parker of Calhan; Kimberly (Ryan) Bennett of Parker and Kenton (Cathy) Parker of Swink; grandchildren, Lauryn (Chuck) Koenig and Zach (Stephanie) Cutter of Canon City; Aaron (Leigh) Parker and Taylor Parker all of Rocky Ford; Ashley Clevenger of Denver; Mikaela Parker and Karson Parker of Calhan; Jack Bennett and Clara Bennett of Parker; and brother Crandall (Monie) Howard of Olathe, CO; she is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. Susy is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence & Laverne Howard and brother, Larry Howard.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Swink United Methodist Church in Swink.
