Tharon Garber, 83, born on January 23, 1931 in Sugar City, Colorado, passed away peacefully in his sleep at 4:00 am Saturday morning, October 18, 2014.
To locals, he was a rancher, a miner and a woodsman; a larger-than-life figure with a stogie on one side of his mouth, and a sly smile on the other. For most of his life, he charged through the world on an artificial leg, teaching others the meaning of independence and self perseverance. To those who knew him well, he had a quick wit, a bit of a gruff exterior, but always a twinkle in his soft blue eyes. He was full of surprises and schemes that usually involved the great outdoors and brought big adventure to those around him.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris Garber, his two children, Elizabeth and Tharon Louis, and three grandsons. His children will always remember him in his most important role – as a wonderful father.
A memorial will be held Saturday, October 25, at 12:00 pm in the home of Barbara Nolan at 917 West 29th Street, Loveland, Colorado, 80538. This will be a celebration of a life well-lived.
