Theodore Charles Shufelt

Theodore Charles Shufelt, 88, was born on November
2, 1927 in Deer Lodge,
Montana and passed over peacefully to God in the early hours of January
23, 2016 in Garland,
TX.  Chuck came to Colorado when he was
just a young boy, growing up and attending school in the Rocky Ford area,
graduating from Otero Junior College.
 
An honorable and loving husband, brother, family
man, veteran and supportive colleague to many, Chuck is survived by his wife of
10 years and friend for over 50 years, Helen Palmer Shufelt.  Other family includes his sister, Phyllis
Geist of Manzanola, CO and her two boys Chad and Charles, both of
Colorado.  He also leaves his
sister-in-law Sharon Murphy and her daughter Linda and son-in-law, Tom and
their boys Kalvin and Keith.  He was
preceded in death by Louise Murphy Shufelt, his wife of over 50 years.
 
He has numerous family and friends in the La Junta
area and many friends and colleagues at the City of Garland where he worked for
31 years as the Tax Assessor Collector and pitched for the City’s softball
league before retiring back to LaJunta, CO in 1991.  Before joining the City, Chuck worked as a
seismologist, searching for oil in Alaska and across the US.  Always proud to wear his favorite WWII hat,
Chuck served honorably in the US Army during WWII in Japan shortly after the
atomic bomb was dropped.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, January
27, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at
Peacock Memorial Chapel with Reverend Rodger Harris officiating. Visitation
will be Tuesday, January 26, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Peacock
Memorial Chapel.
