Val Madrid

Val Madrid, 65, of La Junta passed away on August 9, 2013 at the Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo. He was born on February 14, 1948 in La Junta, Colorado to Fidel & Eustacia (Cruz) Madrid. He married Margaret Aguilar on March 3, 1972 in La Junta.

Val attended La Junta High School, and received his GED as an adult in 1984. He served in the Army, rank SP4, served in Germany, 169 Arty Gp enlisting in April of 1969 and serving until March of 1971. He served in the National Guard for four years. Val worked for 29 years at the Ft. Lyon VA Hospital Fire Department before his retirement in 2001. He attended Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish and was a member of the Brotherhood of the Penitentes.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Margaret of the La Junta home; children, Geraldine (Omar) Madrid-Davis and Val (Stacey) Madrid, Jr.; grandchildren, Nicholas and Nathan Madrid, Dulciana and Graciela Davis; brothers, George (Gloria) Madrid, Sonny (Flora) Madrid, Jr (Bea) Madrid; sisters, Flora (John) Romero, Tillie (Rudy) Mascarenas, Margaret Mata, Helen Encinias; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers & sisters, Nora Madrid, Ramona Madrid, Jenny Bonilla, Mary Salas, Julia Zamora, Dave, Sr., Nino, Paul, and Pete Madrid, and other nieces and nephews and family members. 

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Thursday, August 15, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. and Funeral Mass will be Friday, August 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., both services will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe/St. Patrick Parish with Father Alphonsus Ihuoma officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2013 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
