Velma F. Michels, 88, passed away February 23, 2014 at the Arkansas Valley Regional Nursing Care Center in La Junta. She was born on February 23, 2014 in Casper, Wyoming to Walter & Louisa (Rea) Keyser. She married Leo C. Michels on January 6, 1961in La Junta; he preceded her in death on June 20, 1973.


Velma was raised in Stafford, Kansas. She worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 22 years. Velma enjoyed reading and spending time with her dogs. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly and will be missed by all who knew her.


She is survived by her children, Mary Michels of La Junta; Ariah (Robert) Chetelat of Broken Arrow, OK; Garlin Michels of Los Angelas, CA; grandchildren, Allison (Zach) Goodwin, Mollie, Katelyn, and Abigail Chetelat all of Broken Arrow, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, four brothers, and four sisters.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.



A graveside service will be Friday, February 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Rodger Harris officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from noon to 1:45 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
