Velma June England

July 10, 1922 — October 25, 2014

Velma June England, 92, of Rocky Ford, passed away on October 25, 2014, at her Rocky Ford home. Velma was born on July 10, 1922 to Lennie & Oma (Ivy) DeWitt in Lamar, Colorado. She married Jack W. England on October 3, 1940 in Ulysses, Kansas.


Velma attended Hopewell School and graduated from Lamar High School. She worked at McCandless Livestock, Mary Ann's Boutique, and the Bible Store. She was a wonderful hostess to all who visited, she was an avid reader and loved being with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Dale (Lucy) England of Salida, CO, Vickie (Greg) Strong of Colorado City, CO, Debra England of Scottsbluff, NE, Kurt (Paula) England of La Junta and Doug (Lynda) England of Ordway; sister, Betty Benedict of Colorado Springs; 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.


Velma was preceded in death by her parents, Lennie & Oma DeWitt, husband, Jack W. England, and an infant sister.


The family would like to thank the staff at Cottonwood Ridge for the last ten years of tender care of our beloved mother and grandmother.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Daniel Fiester officiating.
