Verner Lowery “Vern” Giltner, 70 passed away on November 4, 2022, at his La Junta home. He was born on March 25, 1952, in Pueblo to Elmer L. & Anna (Furzi) Giltner.
Vern made a lifelong career in HVAC, starting at Elmer’s Sheet Metal working for his dad and ending at Armor Sheet Metal in La Junta.
He had three loves starting with motorcycles building and racing them in his earlier years then riding for pleasure. He put many miles on his Harley with lifelong friends. His 2nd love was sailing spending many hours on Pueblo Reservoir. He also took on transporting a boat by water which took him from Lake Michigan in Wisconsin and ending at Mackinac Island in Lake Huron, with only a crew of one. His 3rd love was dogs, which he had quit a few of; Rusty, his Golden Retriever; Todd and Molly his Border Collie’s were his companions throughout his life. He lived his life believing in the Constitution without variation.
He is survived by his daughter, Candice Collins of La Junta; grandchildren, Brian, Christopher and Levi (Raeann) Collins; great-grandchild, Skyler; siblings, Elanna Harger of Tulsa, OK; Margie Kirk of La Junta; nieces, Whitney (Roy) Henry, Stacy Kirk, Shawna Kirk, Jacque Spear, and Danielle Hague; nephew, Dwane Giltner; great-nieces and nephews, Bently, Trinity and Emery. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Louis, grandchildren, Tyler and Brittney Collins.
A memorial service will be Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Peacock Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers those wishing to do so may make memorial contributions to Ark-Valley Hospice, PO Box 408, La Junta, CO 81050 direct or through the funeral home.
