Vernon Alfred Schulz

March 23, 1922 — July 26, 2019

Vernon A. Schulz, 97, from Cheraw, CO, peacefully passed away July 26, 2019 at the home of his son, John Schulz. Vernon was born to Henry and Elise Schulz on March 23, 1922 in La Junta, CO. He married Ida Mae Gingerich on November 23, 1947 in Plain City, OH.

Vernon attended and graduated school in La Junta, CO. He worked with the building and paint crew for Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1986 with 31 years. He enjoyed horseshoe pitching, hunting date nails, rocks and arrowheads. He was an avid gardener.

Vernon is survived by sons: John Schulz of Granada, CO and Fred (Gina) Schulz of Deer Trail, CO as well as his grandchildren, Theresa (Kenny) Echols of Wild Horse, CO; Jessica (Aristeo) Urias of Coolidge, AZ; Ryan (Dolores Sena) Schulz of Lamar, CO; Victoria (Nick) Dickens of Strasburg, CO; Eric Schulz of Hackettstown, NJ; Michele Daubenspeck of Kansas City, MO; and Kevin Daubenspeck of Topeka, KS. Vernon had 11 great grandchildren: Kaydin, Wyatt, and Hudson Echols of Wild Horse, CO; Jorge and Benjamin Urias of Coolidge, AZ; Ezekiel and Dezlyn Schulz of Lamar, CO; Alex and Mason Dickens of Strasburg, CO; and Dillon and Madelyn Daubenspeck of Kansas City, MO.

Vernon lost his wife Ida in 2008 having celebrated 60 years of marriage. They were members of the East Holbrook Mennonite Church, Cheraw, CO. Vernon was preceded in death by his wife Ida, parents and siblings, and his daughter, Johanna Daubenspeck.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., at the East Holbrook Mennonite Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 10:45 a.m. at East Holbrook Mennonite Church with Pastor Brian Hanneken officiating.
