Virgil Eugene Weed, 88, of La Junta passed away on September 20, 2017 at the Pioneer Health Care Center in Rocky Ford. He was born on June 8, 1929 to Harry & Lucille (Megenberg) Weed in Wichita, Kansas.
He graduated from Holly High School. He served in the Navy for 9 years on the USS Midway. He was an instructor for crash fire & rescue. He held various jobs. He enjoyed dancing and singing, spending time with his family and grandchildren, and also going fishing especially at Taylor Park. He enjoyed working cattle and riding horses, loved his dogs and cats. He loved everyone and you knew it by the hard time he gave you.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Luaine of the La Junta home; children, Barbara (Bill) Evans of Virginia; Robin (Ed) Rice of Cortez, CO; Bill (Regina) Murray of Bucklin, KS; Anita (Tom) Burkhart of Strasburg, CO; Rodney Verquer of La Junta; Renae (John) Charles and Ruth Mares all of Pueblo; sisters, Phyllis Brannon of Kiowa, CO and Gloria (Bill) Clark of Fruita, CO; 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Russell Verquer; brother-in-law, Gordon Brannon.
Memorial service will be held on Monday, September 25, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Crossroads Church in Swink. Inurnment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery along with military honors by the Rocky Ford Rifle Team, American Legion Post #8.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Pioneer Health Care Center, 900 S. 12th Street, Rocky Ford, CO 81067 or to a charity of choice direct or through the funeral home.
