William J. "Bill" Russell

Bill Russell, 81, passed away Nov. 30, 2018 at his La Junta home. Bill was born on October 9, 1937 in La Crosse, Kansas to William Keith and Rose Russell.

He graduated from La Crosse High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduation.

He attended barber school in Wichita Kansas and worked in his first barber shop in Dodge City Kansas.

Bill was an entrepreneur who was involved in numerous business ventures. He owned rental property and 2 barber shops in Kansas. He owned and operated many local businesses including the Peppermint Twist, Valley Floral, Clothes Pin Laundry, Lindsey car wash/soft water and Auto Recyclers.

Bill was a tireless worker who understood and shared his value of hard work and perseverance.

He enjoyed family gatherings, street rods and coffee time.

Bill was a member of the First Assembly of God in La Junta.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kay Russell of La Junta; children, Dana (Ray) Velez of La Junta and Monte (Crystal) Russell of Edmond, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jard) Halfacre of Aurora, Amy Coates (Eric Sanchez) of La Junta, Keith (Chandi) Russell of Mustang, Oklahoma and Dallas (Brandi) Russell of Choctaw, Oklahoma. Great-grandchildren, Mary Sanchez, Angelina Sanchez, Gabriella Sanchez, Kale Halfacre, Kendall Halfacre, Camdyn William, Jameson Russell, Brecken Russell and Suttyn Russell who is due to be born on 12/24/2018.

At Bill’s request, there will be no services as cremation has taken place. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Peacock-Larsen Funeral Home & Arkansas Valley Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
